Math Department Parent Letter & Course Syllabus

School Year 2014-2015

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year at Morgan Park High School!  It is my firm belief that students’ success can be achieved when we work in partnership: teacher, student, and parent.  There will be an exchange of knowledge between teacher and students and among students. Students will be independent learners with students wanting to understand rather than simply completing a task.

I strive to help each of my students master the skills needed to be successful in any college/university and/or career.  These skills include: Knowledge and Understanding of Content, Investigating Patterns, Communicating, and Applying Mathematics in Real-Life Contexts.Students will assume responsibility for high quality work by persevering, initiating improvements, making revision, adding detail and/or helping peers.

In order to maximize your child’s education, I ask that you read over the syllabus with your child to make sure they understand what is required for them to be successful in this course.  It is important that your child keep this syllabus handy as it contains lots of important information pertaining to the course.

I also ask that you view:

1)  My page every Monday on the Morgan Park website for class updates,

2) Child’s grade and attendance by logging on to the IMPACT parent portal (updates every Monday) https://parent.cps.k12.il.us/pc/default.aspx

In addition, I ask that you email me so that I know the best way to communicate with you.  I look forward to working with your child this school year.

*Please ensure that your child has his/her Binder, Spiral Notebook, and supplies by Monday, September 8th, 2014.
